You could easily take that statement literally, because the bar at Blue Hound Kitchen & Cocktails is a scene unto itself. But what makes this Downtown Phoenix restaurant truly stand out is its innovative "gastro-lounge" concept which pairs seasonally inspired chef-driven cuisine with artisanal wines, craft cocktails and locally brewed beers.
The menu here is deceptively straightforward: Hors D'oeuvres, Fish, Meats, Farm & Garden and Brick Oven Flatbreads. But from there it gets adventurous. Forget big plates loaded with butter, fat and cream. Executive Chef Stephen Jones achieves sensational flavors by creatively blending rubs, marinades and infusions with locally grown organic ingredients - everything from seasonal produce to free-range meats and sustainable seafood-and serves it on smaller 'social plates' so everyone can share in the fun.
And because everything is better with a cocktail, we called upon Master Mixologist Jacques Bezuidenhout to create a menu that tempts you with 33 specialty drinks, 20 beers by the bottle and an array of beers on tap, plus one of Phoenix's largest selection of bourbons, scotches and gins.
But never fear, wine lovers, the Blue Hound wine list is a marvel as well - masterminded by Emily Wines, features 65 wines by the bottle, half bottle and glass. Selections range from classic and recognizable for the more traditional to unique and quirky for the adventurous.
